Welcome to Cycling Salamander

The Cycling Salamander is a fine art gallery outside the city of Charlevoix, Michigan. Charlevoix is located on three lakes - Lake Michigan, Round Lake and Lake Charlevoix in the northern lower (peninsula) of Michigan. We feature works from over 40 selected Michigan artists. The Artist as Shaman
 Dates TBA for 2012
Class is limited to 12 people.

Artists can help restore balance on a planetary level by restoring harmony within their own communities and themselves.  By reclaiming old traditions, we give healing energy back to the Earth.  In this workshop, you will discover your own role in healing by learning how indigenous cultures from all over the world used art for ceremony, prophecy, and to shape consciousness.  The real meaning of “myth” will be discussed, as the Latin translation states, “it is the power to transform something or someone from one state or condition to another.”  Participants will explore their own significant role in this world through journaling, art activities, handouts, and connecting with nature.  Bring your own sense of adventure and desire for a higher purpose to help you “see with new eyes.”
Karen Godfrey, M.S.W. began as a social worker specializing in art therapy.  10 years ago, she transitioned from a full time therapist to a gallery owner and now, a full time artist.  She still incorporates her belief in the healing power of art into her artwork and workshops.  For the past three years, Karen has been studying with a Shaman, which has allowed her to “see” past the ordinary affairs of the world and tap into the spiritual realm.  It is Karen’s goal to empower other artists to bring forth their artwork and to heal the world.  “Once I knew deep in my soul the importance of my own artwork and its healing properties, I felt a sense of urgency to get my artwork out into the world and to help other artists do the same.”   Visit her website at www.karengodfrey.net
